As part of the on-going year-long Russian Literary Festival to mark the 200th Birth anniversary celebrations of Fyodor Dostoevsky, the Russian House in Trivandrum is organising a monthly programme FYODOR DOSTOEVSKY IN MALAYALAM. The programme highlights famous writers in Malayalam who translated and popularised the Russian writer.
The second edition of the programme highlighted the contribution of N.K. Damodaran in making Fyodor Dostoevsky more popular among the people in Kerala.
Noted writer, screenplay writer and film director Mr G.R. Indugopan inaugurated the seminar. In his address, Mr Indugopan said that Dostoevsky was the most popular writer in the world who is admired by readers belonging to all class" Dostoevsky's characters represented people who undergo tremendous pressure in their lives. Even love in Dostoevsky's novels is based on compassion. N.K.Damodaran translated two famous novels of Dostoevsky, Humiliated and Insulted and Karamazov Brothers. Three generations in Kerala feel the magic of Fyodor Dostoevsky thanks to the effort of N.K. Damodaran," said Indugopan.
Writer and critic Mr Pradeep Panangad spoke on this occasion. "N.K.Damodaran was the first writer who translated Dostoevsky into Malayalam. His poetic touch in selecting the words makes the reading more enjoyable," said Pradeep Panangad.
In her address, Ms Kavitha Nair, Assistant Director, Russian House in Trivandrum, said that the next edition of the programme would be dedicated to Malayalam writer and translator Subhadra Parameswaran. "Our effort would refresh the memory of the renowned Russian writer and also helps to recollect the contribution of some Malayalam writers," she said.
