12 MONTH LONG FESTIVAL DEDICATED TO YEAR OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY IN RUSSIA INAUGURATED IN TRIVANDRUM

According to the decree by the President of the Russian Federation Mr Vladimir Putin, 2021 has been declared as the Year of Science and Technology in Russia.

Russian Cultural Centre in Trivandrum launched a new project to promote the corporation between the institutions in Russia and Kerala in the field of Science and Technology. This new initiative has been introduced as part of the YEAR OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY celebrations.

Dr G. Madhavan Nair, Former Chairman of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and Secretary to Government of India (Space), inaugurated the Science and Technology Festival on 28 January 2021. Dr Nandini V.Kumar, former Deputy Director General of Indian Council for Medical Research(ICMR), delivered the Key-note address. Dr K.Anvar Sadath, Chief Executive Officer of Kerala Infrastructure and Technology for Education, Government of Kerala(KITE) and member of the Advisory Board of the National Council for Education Research and Training(NCERT), spoke on this occasion.

In his inaugural address, Dr.G.Madhavan Nair said that Russia had always given priority to the development of science and technology. "Russia is not only researching many spheres of technology but also extending helps to its friendly nations. Indo-Russian cooperation in the space and nuclear sectors is an excellent example of that," said Dr Madhavan Nair. Also, he shared his experiences in working with the space scientists of Russia.

Dr Nandini V. Kumar said that Russia had gone a step ahead in developing a vaccine compared to many other developed countries. Both India and Russia have set an example for the rest of the world in effectively combating COVID19.

Dr Anvar Sadath expressed the interest of Kerala Infrastructure and Technology for Education in cooperating with Russian institutions in the development of Information Technology for school students.

In his presidential address, Mr Ratheesh C. Nair, Honorary Consul of the Russian Federation and Director of the Russian Centre of Science ad Culture in Trivandrum, talked about the upcoming events that will be held within the framework of the Year of Science and Technology in Russia, stressing that their main goal will be to intensify scientific and technological cooperation between our countries.
