Great emphasis was made on the promotion of tourism between Russia and India at a seminar organised by the Russian Centre of Science and Culture in Trivandrum.
The function was organised as part of the “Year of Tourism between Russia and India - 2018”. Mr. Oleg Avdeev, Consul-General of the Russian Federation in Chennai, inaugurated the seminar. In his keynote address, he noted that India was and still is one of the favourite destinations of the Russian tourists.
To the great interest of the gathering, he observed: “After a small interval, the number of Russians visiting India, particularly Kerala State, considerably increased year by year. Similarly, the number of tourists from India to Russia has seen a steady climb in recent years. The national flight carrier Aeroflot has started operation from Colombo. This has facilitated the flight of people from Kerala to Russia in an easier manner”. Mr. Avdeev concluded by saying that tourism is one of the areas which Russia is looking forward to cooperate with Southern States of India.
Mr. Avdeev also inaugurated a programme titled “Literature through Tourism” on the occasion.
The Honorary Consul of the Russian Federation and Director of the RCSC, Trivandrum, Mr. Ratheesh C. Nair, said that the programme will help the travellers to know more about the who-is-who of Russian literature by paying a visit to their birth places.
He said: “We have agreements with various museums in Russia to help visitors from Kerala get authentic information about the Russian writers during their visit to their birth places. We are also planning to associate with media and airlines like Aeroflot to compliment the programme”.
Managing Director of Yatrika Yours Mrs. Jaya Chandrahasan, President of Kerala Travel Mart Mr. Baby Mathew also spoke on the occasion.
