Mayors of Yessentuki City in Russia and Thrissur in India approved on singing the Twin city agreement
August 24 Mayor of Yessentuki Ms. Larisa O.Pisarenko and the Mayor of Thrissur in India Ms.Pauloth Paul (I. P. Paul) approved on to sign the agreement on Twin city relations within the visit of the 7-member Indian delegation from Thrissur – the cultural capital of Kerala to the Southern Russian resort city.
The meeting was held in the presence of the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to India H.E. Mr. Alexander Kadakin, Director of the Russian Centre of Science and Culture, Honorary Consul of the Russian Fedeartion in Trivandrum Mr. Ratheesh C. Nair and representatives of the Stavropolskiy region administration.
The visit of the delegation took place as a result of the initiative being taken by the Embassy of the Russian Federation in India, Representative of the Federal agency for CIS, Compatriots Living Abroad and International Humanitarian Cooperation (Rossotrudnichestvo) and the Russian Centre of Science and Culture in Trivandrum to develope regional leval cooperation of the two countries. Within strengthening the ties between the Sourthen regions of Russia and India besides Yessentuki and Thrissur there has been also reached the agreement on establishing Twin city relations between Pyatigorsk and Kochi. There is also much work done by the Representative of Rossotrudnichestvo and the RCSC in Trivandrum in bringing closer Kerala and the Russian region of Altay. By now Twin cities agreements have been signed between Moscow andNew Delhi, Volgograd and Chennai, Kazan and Hyderabad, the Republic of Tatarstan and Andhra Pradesh state, Astrakhan region and Gujarat, Samara region and Karnataka.
The meeting between the Heads of the two cities was held as part of the Day of Yessentuki celebrations.
Members of the visiting delegation discussed the points to be included in the agreement on Twin city. The discusion was held. In his address Mr.Kadakin stressed the necessity in strengthening regional cooperation and also people-to-people relations."People's diplomacy is very important in strengthening diplomatic relations among nations. People-to-people relations contribute greatly in strengthening Russian-Indian relations. I am very happy to witness yet another milestone in the bilateral coperation. I have no doubt that the Twin city agreement will help the people of Yessentuki and Thrissur to learn more about each other. I hope this initiative will also help to promote direct business ties between Southern part of Russia and Southern part of India", said Mr. Kadakin.
In her address Ms. Larisa Pisarenko said that Yessentuki's Twin city relation with Thrissur would create a role model for other cities in promoting regional cooperation. "l’m looking forward to visiting Thrissur to sign the final agreement on the Twin city relations. We can cooperate in many fields like trade, education and culture", said Ms. Piserenko.
