Rich tributes were paid to the heroes of the Stalingrad Battle at a special function organised by the Representation of Rossotrudnichestvo in India at the Russian Centre of Science and Culture in New Delhi on February 3, 2020. The occasion was the inauguration of the Exhibition titled ”Stalingrad. Symbol of Courage and Heroism”, dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War (1941-1945) and 77th anniversary of the Stalingrad Battle.
The dignitaries who participated in the event were the Chief Guest, Lt. General (Retd.) A.B. Shivane, Ex-Director-General, Mechanised Forces, Indian Army, Major Dalbir Singh, Co-Chairman of the Public Organisation “People’s Assembly of Eurasia”, National Secretary, AICC, Air Marshal (Retd. ) Pavan Kapoor, Vice Chairman, Rus Education, Prof. Sankar Basu, President of DAASAI, and others.
The speakers were emphatic in underscoring the great sacrifice made by heroic people and the Red Army.
Describing the Stalingrad Battle as the most significant part of World War II, Lt. Gen. Shivane said that the courageous Russian Army gave a crushing defeat to the German forces notwithstanding the heavy toll of human lives and massive damage to properties and materials. “We have to give a big salute to the Red Army for their unique fortitude, determination, patriotic spirit”,- he said, adding that the Allied Forces could flutter the flag of victory owing to the heroism and sacrifice of Red Army.
In his address, Major Dalbir Singh underlined the commendable strategy of the Red Army as well as the consistent and steady position of the political leadership which resulted into the glorious victory of the Soviet Union in World War II. He made special mention to the Soviet generals who took the potential guidance and leadership in the entire operation.
