PIONEERING AND UNIQUE INTERACTION BETWEEN RUSSIAN AND INDIAN THEATRE GROUPS

It was a sort of pioneering venture in having a successful unique interaction and tie-up between the Russian and Indian theatre artists at the National School of Drama (NSD) in the Capital on November 4, 2019, when a Russian delegation led by Mr. Grigory Zaslavskiy, Vice-Chancellor, Russian Institute of Theatre Arts (GITIS) visited NSD, Mr. Fedor Rozovskiy, Director, RCSC, accompanied the Russian delegation.

     The Russian delegation comprised, apart from the leader one Theatre Director, two teachers from the Department of stage movement and the Department of acting and 10 students, and the visit to the NSD was in response to their invitation to GITIS.

     The Russian team was warmly received by Dr. Abhilash Pillai, Professor and CEP in Charge, NSD, who conducted them to the Master Class Hall, where the two teams acquainted each other. Following this, under the guidance of Mr. Grigory Zaslavskiy, the two groups engaged in joint exchange of theatrical exercises, performing signs, acting and stage movements.

     The main highlight of the day’s engagement was a formal meeting between Mr. Grigory Zaslavskiy and Prof. Suresh Sharma, Director, NSD, Mr. Fedor Rozovskiy and Prof. Abhilash Pillai also took part in the meeting. Having contented with the pioneering efforts of both sides in the theatre group cooperation, the sides agreed to exchange delegations as the next step. The Russian side agreed to receive a group of Indian theatre art students and teachers.

     As scheduled, the Russian delegation will stage the play “The Duel” by A. Kuprin on November 5 and a dance and song concert programme on November 6, 2019.

     The Russian delegation will perform a dance and song concert at the RCSC on November 7, 2019.
