A 10-month-long Festival to mark the Year of Tourism in Russia and India—2018 was inaugurated at a function organised by the Russian Centre of Science and Culture in Trivandrum.
During the 2016 Summit, President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin and Prime Minister of India Mr. Narendra Modi jointly declared 2018 as the Year of Tourism in Russia and India.
The colourful inaugural ceremony witnessed the joint participation of government secretaries, members of the Kerala Travel Mart Tour agents, local NGOs, cultural and scientific elite, students of Kerala universities and journalists.
As part of the inauguration, a 90-minute cultural programme was performed by «Larisa» Dance Studio from Barnaul. The cultural evening comprised traditional Cossack dances, Gypsy dances, other Russian classical dances, as well as contemporary European dances. The eight-member dance group also presented Indian dances, which obviously demonstrated a blend of Russian and Indian cultures. The fascinating journey through Russia showcased the places of interests in Russia.
This dance form enormously provided insights to Russian tradition and tourism. Eminent singers from Siberia Alexander Rugatze and Yana Filippova presented both Russian and English songs.
Mr. K. V. Mohan Kumar, I.A.S., Secretary, Ministry of Education, Government of Kerala, Mr. N. Shankara Reddy, Director General of Police, Mrs. Jaya Chandrahasan, Managing Director, Kerala Travels Yathrika, and Mr. Ratheesh C. Nair, Honorary Consul of t he Russian Federation and Director, RCSC, Trivandrum, presented mementos to the artists and group leader Larisa Lubivaya and Sergey Chernyuk.
Eight TV channels and nine newspapers covered the programme. Thirteen articles were published.
