Within the framework of the project “Russian Cinema”, the Russian Centre of Science and Culture in New Delhi marked the 85th Birth Anniversary of the outstanding Soviet film director and script-writer Andrei Tarkovsky with the screening of his film “Mirror” on March 31, 2017.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Raj Sahore, Head of the Cinema Club “Planet Cinema”, said that Andrei Tarkovsky was a laureate of the Venice and Cannes International Film Festivals. He added that his works such as “Ivan’s Childhood”, “Andrei Rublev”, “Mirror”, “Stalker” and “Solaris” became classics in the history of world cinema.
Mr. Sahore spoke about the legendary father of Andrei Tarkovsky, the poet and writer Arseniy Tarkovsky, whose poems are inextricably linked with the works of Tarkovsky Junior. He also lauded the performance of actors who played the major roles in the film “Mirror” – Margarita Terekhova, Oleg Yankovsky, Ignat Daniltsev, Larisa Tarkovskaya, and others.
The film show ended with a lively discussion on the autobiographical film “Mirror” by Andrei Tarkovsky, covering three phases of the Great Patriotic War.
The event was attended by students and teachers of the Russian Language Institute of the RCSC in New Delhi, as well as regular participants in the meetings of the Cinema Club “Planet Cinema”.
